Three-Tier Security Arrangement In Delhi For Election Results With 10,000 Policemen, 2 Paramilitary Companies

Delhi's counting of votes for the 70-member assembly will be secured by 10,000 police personnel, two paramilitary companies per center, and anti-sabotage checks.

Security has been beeefed up in the national capital ahead of counting of votes for the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly. The couting of votes wil begin at 7 am on Saturday across 19 counting centres. 

A three-tier arrangement with 10,000 police personnel, including two paramilitary companies per centre has been made for the counting of the votes. 

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Special Commissioner of Police Devesh Chandra Srivastava said, "We have made robust security arrangements (for counting day). Only authorised personnel will be allowed inside the counting centres, where the use of mobile phones will be strictly prohibited."

"Two metal frame detectors, hand-held metal detectors and X-ray machines will ensure proper security of the counting centres. Delhi Police has already conducted anti-sabotage checks at all the counting centres," the DCP said, reported PTI. 

Under the security arrangement, the strongroom and counting halls will be guarded by CAPF, and local police will be deployed on the premises and first entry points. 

An additional DCP will monitor the entire counting centre law and order, he said. 

Srivastava said the police teams are already coordinating with returning officers and members of various political parties to maintain peace during the counting process.

PCR Vans will be deployed and the traffic police will ensure smooth vehicular movement, he added. 

"WE are working in coordination with the District Election Officers and Returning Officers. 38 companies of CAPFs have been deployed at counting centres," Srivastava said.

"Checking/frisking of persons, installation of metal detectors and x-ray baggage scanners will be the responsibility of Delhi Police. We appeal to the public to maintain peace. Those who try to spread misinformation on social media will be dealt with as per the law," he said.
