'Narendra Modi Won't Be PM For 5 Years': Congress Leaders Hint At Mid-Term Polls Ahead Of CWC Meeting

Congress leaders, including Gaurav Gogoi and Bhupesh Baghel, hinted at pushing for mid-term elections, claiming the NDA government is unstable.

The Congress, which is having its working committee meeting on Saturday, dropped hints at making moves that could lead to mid-term elections. Congress's Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi said that Narendra Modi will not be able to complete his five-year term. Former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, who lost the Rajnandangaon seat in the Lok Sabha elections, said that the NDA's government was an unstable one and would fall very soon.

"Bananas and berries don't go well together. This government will fall," Baghel said before going to attend the CWC meeting in Delhi.

Gaurav Gogoi said: "The win margin of Rahul Gandhi from Raebareli is higher than that of Narendra Modi's in Varanasi. Hence, I feel Narendra Modi won't be able to remain the PM for more than 5 years."

Earlier, Congress MP Manickam Tagore said the party would adopt a "wait-and-watch" strategy. For the time being, though, the party's senior leaders are rooting for Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of Opposition parties in Parliament. Congress leader M Veerappa Moily said, "He [Rahul Gandhi] has to take charge of the LoP. After all, the people want him there. INDIA team and Congress people also want him there."

Reacting to the claims of mid-term elections, Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai said, "Let them be in their thoughts. Let them be happy... Our NDA government will run for 5 years for the full term..."

Commenting on Bhupesh Baghel's statement, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav said, "Who is he? All of this is gone, whether it is Bhupesh Baghel or anyone else. With the track record PM Modi has, the world is waiting and all of us are fortunate the biggest democracy is going to be in the most capable hands. I suggest that the Opposition should also accept that they have lost and that PM Modi and NDA have won the elections..."
