Ahead Of CWC Meeting, Congress Keeps Up Suspense On Nitish & Naidu, MP Says 'Will Take Decision At Right Time'

Congress Working Committee and Parliamentary Party will meet on Saturday to analyse the party's results in the Lok Sabha elections and potentially elect Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) and the Congress Parliamentary Party will meet on Saturday to discuss its performance in the Lok Sabha elections. The working committee meeting will be held at 11 am and the parliamentary party meeting has been scheduled at 5:30 PM. However, the suspense over the government formation lingers as Congress leader Manickam Tagore dropped hints of a "wait-and-watch" policy.

The newly elected members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will attend the parliamentary party meeting. The election of the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party in the Lok Sabha may also be considered in this meeting. The leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party in the Lok Sabha will be the Leader of the Opposition.

Congress leader Manickam Tagore said, "We are going to review the performance of the Congress party in the 2024 elections at the CWC meeting. The CPP meeting scheduled at 5:30 pm will be held to elect the CPP chairperson. For the Congress's leader in the Lok Sabha, we all feel Rahul Gandhi should be given charge. If he accepts this role, he will be the LoP leading the 234 INDIA bloc MPs..."

"We all know the BJP has lost the majority as the single-largest party in the Lok Sabha... Their dependence on Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar is the only way they can form the government... INDIA leaders have decided to wait and watch and we will take a decision at the right time," Tagore said.

According to sources, Sonia Gandhi may be re-elected as the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party. After this, she will choose the Leader of the Opposition. Many Congress leaders have proposed to make Rahul Gandhi the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. At the same time, Mallikarjun Kharge is likely to remain the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

Earlier, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on 'X', "The schedule of tomorrow's meetings of the Indian National Congress is as follows. The extended Congress Working Committee will meet at Hotel Ashok at 11 am. After that, there will be a press conference at around 1 pm. At 5:30 pm, there will be a meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party of all the newly elected Lok Sabha members and Rajya Sabha members in the Central Hall of Parliament (Samvidhan Sadan)."

Congress won 99 seats in the Lok Sabha election. In the last Lok Sabha election, the party had won 52 seats. The party will take out a march in 403 assembly constituencies of Uttar Pradesh to thank the voters.
