The news comes only one day after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) met to discuss its Lok Sabha election strategy and to reveal the names of its candidates.
“The Congress president has constituted the Manifesto Committee for the upcoming General Election 2024 with immediate effect,” the statement issued by the party reads.
The committee also includes former Union ministers Anand Sharma, Jairam Ramesh, and Shashi Tharoor.
The committee also includes senior Congress politician and former Manipur deputy chief minister Gaikhangam, as well as the party's deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi and All India Professionals Congress chairman Praveen Chakravarty.
Imran Pratapgarhi, K Raju, Omkar Singh Markam, Ranjeet Ranjan, Jignesh Mevani, and Gurdeep Sappal are the other members of the important panel that will determine the party's electoral programme.
In preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress launched its 'UP Jodo Yatra' earlier on Wednesday, following in the footsteps of the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', to address issues affecting farmers, labourers, youth, and women.
During this yatra, the Congress also hopes to connect the people of the state, which is significant given the grand old party's recent election defeats in three states.
Beginning the yatra with prayers at the 'Sidh Peeth Maa Shakambhari Devi,' Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Ajay Rai emphasised that people in the state are troubled, including farmers, labourers, youth, and women, and that the issues of all sections will be raised during this yatra.
