Congress Likely To Discuss Candidates For Amethi, Raebareli Lok Sabha Seats Today: Report

Lok Sabha Elections: The Congress' central election committee (CEC), chaired by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, is set to meet on Saturday evening to discuss the remaining seats for Lok Sabha polls.

Lok Sabha Elections: The top brass of the Congress will discuss and finalise the party candidates for the remaining Lok Sabha seats, including Amethi and Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday evening, news agency PTI reported on Friday, citing sources. The Congress' central election committee (CEC), chaired by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, is set to meet on Saturday evening to discuss the remaining seats for Lok Sabha polls, they said.

The PTI quoting sources further stated the grand old party is likely to discuss the candidates for the Lok Sabha seats of Amethi and Raebareli, previously held by Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, respectively. The Congress has so far announced candidates for 317 Lok Sabha seats. 

On Thursday, the Congress released another list of eight candidates from Haryana for the ongoing polls. The grand old party fielded Deepender Singh Hooda from Rohtak, Kumari Selja from Sirsa, and Mahendra Pratap from Faridabad. Earlier on Wednesday, the grand old party released a list of candidates for Telangana, naming contestants from Khammam, Hyderabad and Karimnagar Lok Sabha seats.

On Monday, the party named seven candidates for Punjab and Bihar Lok Sabha elections. On Sunday, the grand old party released a list of 11 Lok Sabha Candidates for Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.

Meanwhile, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Manipur, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Jammu and Kashmir witnessed polling in the second phase on Friday. In the second phase of polling, voting was held on 88 constituencies across 13 states and union territories, with an overall turnout of 60.96%.

Lok Sabha elections are set to be held across India in seven phases between April 19 to June 1. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.
