'EC Turned This Election Into A Game': Shyam Rangeela After Nomination Rejection Against PM Modi In Varanasi

Lok Sabha Elections: Shyam Rangeela claimed that he was barred from submitting his papers on time. He also accused the DM's office of being unfair and denying assistance during the process.

Lok Sabha Elections: After the Election Commission rejected the affidavit of comedian Shyam Rangeela, who filed a nomination against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat, he claimed on Wednesday that the DM said that the nomination was rejected because there was something lacking in the documents and he did not take the oath.

Shyam Rangeela, who shot to fame for his mimicry of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took to X and shared a video listing several hurdles in the nomination process. The comedian also claimed that he was barred from submitting his papers on time. He also accused the District Magistrate's office of being unfair and denying assistance during the process.

In the video shared by Rangeela on Wednesday, he said, “The Election Commission has turned this election in Varanasi into a game. Today, my nomination was rejected. When the nomination was not to be accepted, why was all the drama done in front of the people? Everything was cleared in 24 hours. Nothing was lacking in the documents, we are aware that in a place where we have shown the guts, we will need documents, a proposer, and money. We gave everything. Yesterday we were allowed to enter after 3 PM, now I understand the reason. I thought they were under pressure because of the people’s support, mail, and calls.”.

“Today the DM told us that something was lacking in the documents and you did not take an oath. We were not sworn in, and our lawyers were not allowed with us. I was called alone after 3 PM, so I went there. Now they are saying that I did not take an oath. I responded that you did not make me do so. My friend was beaten up. Modi may act and cry, but I don't want to cry here,” he further stated.

Varanasi DM Responds To Allegations

Varanasi DM responded to the allegations, saying that Rangeela’s documents were scrutinised in his presence and his nomination was cancelled because of the incomplete affidavit.

“Your nomination paper was scrutinised in your presence, and you were informed about the deficiencies. Your nomination paper has been cancelled because the affidavit submitted by you was incomplete and you did not take the oath/affirmation, a copy of the order of which has also been made available to you,” the DM said.
