CM Bhupesh Baghel's Patan Among 70 Seats Up For Grabs In Chhattisgarh Phase-2 Polls. Here's What's At Stake
Chhattisgarh Elections 2023: A total of 70 seats are undergoing polls across 19 districts in the second phase with 958 candidates in the fray.
Second phase of polling for the 90-member Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly began in the state on Friday with 70 seats up for grabs. The first phase of the voting took place in the state on November 7 for 20 seats which included the Naxal-affected Bastar division. For the second phase of polling, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s Patan seat in Durg district is also in the fray.
A total of 70 seats are undergoing polls across 19 districts in the state. 17 of the 70 seats are reserved constituencies for Scheduled Tribes in the state which shares border with four other provinces — Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. 18,806 polling stations have been set up where 1.63 crore registered voters will seal the fate of 958 candidates contesting the polls.
Around 81.42 lakh male voters, 81.72 lakh female voters, and 684 voters from the third gender will exercise their franchise.
With 26 candidates, Raipur West constituency has the highest number of nominations while Daundi Lohara has the least number of contenders with just 4 candidates.
Chhattisgarh Second Phase Polling: Why Is It Important
The second phase of polling in Chhattisgarh becomes all the more important as seats of manu important leaders are on the cards including Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Deputy CM TS Singh Deo.
The second phase becomes more important for the Congress as it includes seats of 10 ministers of the Chhattisgarh cabinet.
From the perspective of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the phase-II polls becomes crucial as it would test waters for Union minister Renuka Singh fielded from Bharatpur-Sonhat seat in Koriya district, MP Arun Sao nominated from Lormi seat in Mungeli district, and MLAs Brijmohan Agrawal from Raipur South seat.
