ITBP Jawan Killed In IED Blast Carried Out By Naxalites In Chhattisgarh's Gariaband Amid Polling

According to a senior police officer, reinforcements were deployed to the scene and that more information is needed.

A jawan of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was killed in a bomb set off by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district, where the second phase of state assembly elections was conducted, news agency PTI reported. According to a senior police officer, the incident occurred in Bade Gobra village as a polling crew, backed by security officials, was returning after conducting voting. According to him, the Naxalites set off a bomb that killed an ITBP officer, Head Constable Joginder Singh.

He stated that reinforcements were deployed to the scene and that more information is needed.

Earlier today, a lady died for unknown reasons while waiting in queue to vote at a voting station in Kasdol assembly seat in Balodabazar-Bhatapara district, while a man was killed in an elephant attack while walking towards a polling booth in Korea district.

On Friday, the second round of the Chhattisgarh elections was held in 70 of the state's 90 assembly constituencies. The first round of voting took place on November 7. 

A tentative voter turnout of 67.34 per cent has been recorded in Chhattisgarh  till 5 pm, according to the Election Commission of India. 

Similarly, an aide of a Congress candidate in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district was slain in a brawl between two factions on Friday during the state's assembly elections. Several skirmishes were also recorded in other regions of the state during the Friday elections, according to the news agency PTI.

Five persons were hurt in a dispute between two groups in the Mhow region of Indore district, while two men were injured in a conflict in the Dimani constituency of Morena district, where Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar has been fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
