Congress Stamps Tejashwi Yadav's Name For Mahagathbandhan CM Face Ahead Of Bihar Elections

Kanhaiya Kumar clarified who will be the Mahagathbandhan's CM candidate if they win the Bihar elections.

Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar on Friday set the record straight on Mahagathbandhan's candidate for the race for Bihar chief minister.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Kumar said the chief minister will be from Rashtriya Janata Dal if the opposition Mahagathbandhan alliance, comprising Congress and RJD, wins the elections.

He said there is "no confusion or dispute" in the alliance on Tejashwi Yadav being the main face for the CM post.

He also took a dig at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar saying the BJP "will bring its own face whenever it gets a chance to remove Nitish Kumar."

The assembly elections in Bihar are slated to take place later this year. The countdown began after the Election Commission of India announced on Thursday that it will begin "Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls" in the state.

The poll panel also conducted "house-to-house verification" to ensure enrollment of all eligible Citizens.

The Commission said the process will start on June 25, adding that the draft electoral roll will be published on August 1 while the final roll will be published on September 30.

The ECI team is led by Senior Deputy Election Commissioner (Sr DEC) Maneesh Garg.

A statement issued by the office of the Bihar CEO said, "The ECI team headed by Sr DEC held a review meeting with officers of the Bihar CEO on Thursday. Addressing the meeting, Garg said that the SIR is to be done in Bihar in view of the upcoming Vidhan Sabha General Election 2025."

The ECI guidelines were explained to all the officials present in the meeting through power point presentation. Various issues related to the process were discussed to ensure that the SIR could be completed within the time limit, it added.
