Assembly Elections: Polling Ends In MP, Chhattisgarh With Over 70 Percent Voter Turnout

Chhattisgarh saw a voting turnout of 68.15 per till 5 PM on the 70 assembly seats that went to the polls.

Polling in Madhya Pradesh concluded on Friday with a voter percentage of 74.31 percent, while Chhattisgarh saw a voting turnout of 70.60 till 5 PM on the 70 assembly seats that went to the polls in the second phase of the assembly election in the state, according to the Election Commission data.

The voting percentage in Madhya Pradesh till 5 pm was 71.16 per cent in all the 230 assembly seats that went to the polls on Friday. The voter turnout in the state was 45.40 per cent till 1 pm. Voting for the assembly seats had started at 7 am.

Polling in the state will decide the electoral fates of 2,500 candidates.

Nearly 5.59 crore voters were eligible to exercise their franchise out of which 2.87 crore were male and 2.71 crore women voters.  Over 5,000 booths in the state were managed by women, while 183 polling stations were run by the disabled, officials said.

The voter percentage in Chhattisgarh till 3 pm was recorded at 55.31 per cent, while the turnout in the state was 38.22 per cent till 1 pm.

First phase polling for the 20 seats in Chhattisgarh had taken place on November 7.

Polling in the state for the second phase began from 8 am and concluded at 5 pm today. Nine polling booths in the Naxal-affected Bindranawagarh seat in Rajim district saw voting begin at 7 am and end at 3 pm.

Over 18,800 polling stations were set up for the second phase of polling in Chhattisgarh. A total of 958 candidates are in the fray across the 70 seats for which polling concluded today at 5 pm.

The contest in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh to form the government is mainly between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
