Assam CM Himanta Alleges Rahul Gandhi Displays 'Chinese Constitution' At Rallies, Congress Youth Wing Hits Back

Sarma shared a photo of Rahul Gandhi holding a book with a red cover at a podium. Additionally, he posted a picture of Gandhi signing an agreement with Chinese delegates.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged on Saturday that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been displaying the Chinese constitutions at his rallies instead of the Indian one. Sarma claimed that the book showcased by Gandhi had a red cover resembling the original Chinese constituencies, whereas the authentic Indian constitution is bound in blue.

"Rahul is displaying a red Chinese constitution to the people attending his meetings," Sarma said in an X post.

In response, several social media users contended that the red-bound Constitution is a coat pocket edition, presented to top Indian leaders, including the President and the Union Home Minister.

Sarma highlighted that the Indian constitution, "in blue, includes a chapter called the Directive Principles of State Policy, which makes it a sacred duty to enact a Uniform Civil Code in our country; Rahul is now opposing this".

"That's why I am sure that the constitution in his hand must be a Chinese one," the CM added.

Sarma shared a photo of Rahul Gandhi holding a book with a red cover at a podium. Additionally, he posted a picture of Gandhi signing an agreement with Chinese delegates during the Beijing Olympics, with Sonia Gandhi standing behind him.

The Assam Chief Minister had previously questioned the book displayed by Gandhi on Friday.

"The original copy of the Constitution of India has a blue cover. The original Chinese constitution has a red cover. Does Rahul carry a Chinese Constitution? We will need to verify," Sarma added.

He also shared a photo of the original Indian constitution, housed in a glass box, with its blue cover.

I.N.D.I.A Bloc And Congress React

The official X handle of the Indian Youth Congress posted multiple photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and former President Ram Nath Kovind with a similar coat pocket edition of the Indian Constitution as displayed by Gandhi.

"Constitution has many colours but contents inside are same...We don't read the colour but what is inside. Colour do not endorse any purpose," said Congress MLA Abdul Rashid Mondal.

CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said, "He should be a little knowledgeable about Indian history. The Constitution doesn't talk of any reservation for OBCs. The OBC thing came only after the Mandal Commission, not something Babasaheb Ambedkar gave. They keep dropping names and creating their own history."

"As far as reservations issue is concerned, the Constitution is very clear - it is reservations for backwardness. It is not reservations on the basis of religion...They (BJP) don't understand the Constitution that is why, they ask for 400 seats so that they can get rid of this Constitution and have their Manusmriti as their order for India's society in future under a fascistic dictatorship. The people will reject this," he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
