ABP News survey: Mahagathbandhan makes massive inroads in Western Uttar Pradesh

NEW DELHI: The 'Mahagathbandhan' of the SP, the BSP and the RLD holds a commanding position in Western Uttar Pradesh, a survey conducted for the coming Lok Sabha elections in UP has found. The region which has a strong presence of Jat, Gujjar and Upper caste voters seems to be favouring the coalition of Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati and Ajit Singh over the NDA. According to ABP News-Neilson projection, the 'Mahagatbandhan' here is set to be the front runner by winning 15 of the 27 seats. The NDA, which had swept the region in 2014, may get only 12 seats. The Congress is out of the race, drawing a blank. In Rampur, senior SP leader Azam Khan is projected to defeat actor-turned politician Jaya Prada of the BJP. RLD leader and Ajit Singh's son Jayant Chaudhary will help the Mahagathbandhan wrest Baghpat from the NDA by defeating Union Minister Satya Pal Singh, the survey said. BJP leader Varun Gandhi, who swapped his Lok Sabha seat with mother Maneka Gandhi, is likely to win from Pilibhit with a narrow margin. Meanwhile, the survey predicted that the SP-BSP-RLD's 'Mahagatbandhan' may win a whopping 42 out of the 80 parliamentary seats on offer in all four regions of Uttar Pradesh while the BJP-led NDA will play a second fiddle by clinching 36 seats, 37 less than what it had won in 2014. The Congress-led UPA, like the last time, is facing a massive drubbing and winning mere two seats.
