AAP's Sanjay Singh Accuses Delhi Election Officer Of 'Secretly' Retweeting BJP's Posts, DEO Responds

The District Election Officer pointed out that the social media handle is managed by the Nodal Officer who posts replies and addresses tweets to counter misinformation.

Another row erupted ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections after Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Wednesday accused the District Election Officer (DEO) of New Delhi of "secretly" retweeting BJP's posts. He also alleged that the officer would join the BJP and campaign openly for the party. Reacting to these accusations, the DEO clarified that the retweet was an inadvertent error that was promptly rectified. The official also said that the social media account is not managed by him but the Nodal Officer of the Social Media Cell.

Sharing a screenshot of the retweet on X (formerly Twitter), Sanjay Singh said: "For the first time in the history of India - Election Officer of New Delhi started retweeting BJP's tweets secretly. Now the District Election Officer of New Delhi Legislative Assembly is saying, When you love, then what is there to fear? The District Election Officer has now decided to join BJP and campaign openly."

"Tomorrow at 11 am, the District Election Officer will formally join BJP at the BJP office," the AAP leader alleged.

The District Election Officer pointed out that the social media handle is managed by the Nodal Officer who posts replies and addresses tweets to counter misinformation and ensure accurate communication with the public.

Responding to Singh, the District Election Officer said: "This particular tweet was inadvertently reposted while replying to the said tweet as part of routine engagement with social media content. The repost was immediately undone as soon as it was brought to the notice of the DEO."

The DEO further added that the Nodal Officer of the Social Media Cell was immediately replaced to ensure accountability and prevent recurrence of similar incidents.

The official also stressed that the Social Media Cell has been instructed to exercise due diligence while undertaking future engagements in order to uphold the integrity of communications, as per the guidelines set by the Election Commission of India.
