Hazaribagh: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Jayant Sinha from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 159128 votes. The polling / voting in Hazaribagh constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 5 on 6 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Jayant Sinha and Congress Party#s Gopal Sahu

Hazaribagh 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 12 out of the 14 parliamentary seat with 40.1 percent vote share while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha managed to win just 2 seats with a 9.3 percent vote share.

The total voter turnout was 63.68% Lok Sabha percent with 63.39% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 64.01% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 6827 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 20 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Hazaribagh, 18 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Jayant Sinha of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Saurabh Narain Singh by a margin of 159128 votes.

  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate Yashwant Sinha attained 283956 votes and RJD's Akalu Ram Mahto bagged 101314 votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate Yashwant Sinha attained 323283 votes and CPI's Bhuwaneshwar Pd.Mehta bagged 159777 votes.

  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Independent candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 19758 votes. Here, Independent leader B. N. Singh attained 83618 votes and INC candidate D. Pandey bagged 63860 votes

President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to decide the council of ministers and the date of his swearing-in ceremony. The president also appointed Modi to the office of Prime Minister of India, a communique issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said. Kovind requested Modi to advise him about the names of others to be appointed members of the Union Council of Ministers; and indicate the date and time of the swearing-in ceremony to be held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, it said. Modi was formally intimated when he called on the president at the Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening in his capacity as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party, which has majority support in the House of the People following the general election to the 17th Lok Sabha, the communique said.

An NDA delegation handed over to the President a letter stating that Narendra Modi had been elected leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party. Letters of support from NDA constituent parties were also handed over to the President.
