Hazaribagh: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Jayant Sinha from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 159128 votes. The polling / voting in Hazaribagh constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 5 on 6 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Jayant Sinha and Congress Party#s Gopal Sahu

Hazaribagh 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 12 out of the 14 parliamentary seat with 40.1 percent vote share while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha managed to win just 2 seats with a 9.3 percent vote share.

The total voter turnout was 63.68% Lok Sabha percent with 63.39% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 64.01% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 6827 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 20 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Hazaribagh, 18 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Jayant Sinha of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Saurabh Narain Singh by a margin of 159128 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha poll, Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate defated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, CPI candidate Bhubneshwar Prasad Mehta attained 356058 votes and BJP's Yashwant Sinha bagged 250730 votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate Yashwant Sinha attained 283956 votes and RJD's Akalu Ram Mahto bagged 101314 votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate Yashwant Sinha attained 323283 votes and CPI's Bhuwaneshwar Pd.Mehta bagged 159777 votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate by a margin of 71251 votes BJP candidate Mahabir Lal Viswakarma had got 237357 while CPI got Bhumeshwar Prasad Mehta votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 24681 votes. Here, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Bhuneshwar Prasad Mehta attained 171725 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Yadunath Pandey bagged 147044 votes
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate with a difference of 43419 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Yadunath Pandey attained 233060 votes and Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Bhuneshwar Pd. Mehta bagged 189641 votes
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate by a margin of 60381 votes INC candidate Damodar Pandey had got 176762 while CPI got Bhuwaneshwar Pd. Mehto votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, JNP candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 29364 votes. Here, JNP leader Kunwar Basant Narayan Singh attained 96182 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Azima Hussain bagged 66818 votes
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha poll, BLD candidate defated INC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BLD candidate Kunwar Basant Narain Singh attained 186058 votes and INC's Damodar Pandey bagged 44941 votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated JAP candidate with a difference of 10988 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Damodar Pandey attained 56831 votes and JAP candidate Lalita Rajya Lakshmi bagged 45843 votes
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Independent candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 19758 votes. Here, Independent leader B. N. Singh attained 83618 votes and INC candidate D. Pandey bagged 63860 votes
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, SWA candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 46611 votes. Here, SWA leader Basant Narain Singh attained 81029 votes and INC candidate Mohammad Alimuddin Ansari bagged 34418 votes
  • 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, CNSPJP candidate had defeated INC candidate by a margin of 50592 votes CNSPJP candidate Lalita Rajya Lakshmi had got 78486 while INC got Badruzzaman Khan votes.
  • 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha Polls, Indian National Congress candidate defeated IND candidate with a difference of 24318 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Ram Raj Jajware attained 158325 votes and IND candidate Bariar Hembrom bagged 134007 votes

President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to decide the council of ministers and the date of his swearing-in ceremony. The president also appointed Modi to the office of Prime Minister of India, a communique issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said. Kovind requested Modi to advise him about the names of others to be appointed members of the Union Council of Ministers; and indicate the date and time of the swearing-in ceremony to be held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, it said. Modi was formally intimated when he called on the president at the Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening in his capacity as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party, which has majority support in the House of the People following the general election to the 17th Lok Sabha, the communique said.

An NDA delegation handed over to the President a letter stating that Narendra Modi had been elected leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party. Letters of support from NDA constituent parties were also handed over to the President.
