The Odisha Police arrested a couple for posing as the daughter and son-in-law of PK Mishra, the principal secretary to the PM Modi to defraud builders and businessmen in Bhubaneshwar.

The Odisha Police have arrested a woman and her accompliance, who posed to be the daughter and son-in-law respectively of PK Mishra, the principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the charges of cheating several builders, including mine owners and businessman in Bhubaneshwar on Monday.

The couple, identified as Hansita Abhilipsa (38), and her alleged husband, Anil Mohanty, have been accused of conning several people of crores of rupees by making fake promises of getting tenders passed and deals approved using her close connections with prominent bureaucrats and politicians in Odisha, as reported by Odisha TV.

As per the police officers, the accused reportedly used their posh office, located on Infocity-Nandankanan Road, to dupe the victims with fake promises.

Follwing the complaint by a mine owner, who was defrauded by the couple, the police arrested the accused.

As per the police investigation, Abhilipsa used digital technology to dupe the victims. Abhilipsa used to digitally manipulate photographs with high-rank officials, and made it to appear that she had close connections with the top-ranked officials. Using doctored images which featured prominent public officials, like former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, she used to deceive and defraud her victims.

Abhilipsa allegedly gained the trust of victims by portraying herself to be associated with influential people, and targeted rich businessman involved in mining, construction and other big businesses. She has also been accused of posing as wife of many high-profile businessman, bureaucrats, and politicians, according to the need of her plan to cheat the people.

As per the Commissionerate Police, the couple was arrested on Monday from Bhubaneshwar's Patia area, and further probe is on to identify other people associated with them in this crime and the victims conned by them.

Additional DCP Swaraj Debata said, "We have got confidential information that Hansita Abhilipsa and Anil Mohanty allegedly duped people by saying that they were the relatives of PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. They were giving identities as the daughter and son-in-law of PK Mishra. A case was registered on December 26."
