QS World Rankings 2019: IIT Bombay beats IIT Delhi to clinch India No. 1 in University rankings

QS World Rankings 2019: Rankings were unveiled recently by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, as per which, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay clinched the Number 1 varsity rank amongst Indian Universities. IIT, Bombay moved 17 places north from its last year position at 179, to 162 in QS World Rankings 2019. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore bagged 2nd rank amongst Indian Universities, by moving 20 notches up from 190 last year to 170 in QS World Rankings 2019.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi closely followed at 172 rank by maintaining its position in QS World Rankings 2019 but overall dropped to the 3rd position amongst Indian Varsities on the coveted list, as compared to being the Number 1 last year.
However, in a subject-wise ranking, the Indian varsities fared much better and booked 20 positions in the Top 100 ranks for disciplines like Civil and Structural Engineering, Computer Science and Information Systems, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering, Mineral and Mining Engineering, etc, positioning the country as an advanced hub for engineering and technology studies.
Globally, the top 3 institutions remained unflickered with America’s Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) maintaining its unbeatable World No. 1 ranking, followed by Stanford University at Rank 2 and Harvard University at Rank 3. The United Kingdom appeared at Number 5 with the University of Oxford and at Number 6 with University of Cambridge.
Overall, 5 institutions from the US, 4 institutions from the UK and 1 from Switzerland made it to the Top 10 QS World Rankings 2019.
