Patna Schools Closed Upto Class 12 Till June 18 Due To Extreme Heatwave

Starting from today, June 12, all schools in Patna will remain closed until June 18.

All Schools in Patna will be closed from today, June 12 to June 18. Due to the prevailing extreme heatwave in Bihar, the Patna District Magistrate (DM) has imposed restrictions on all academic activities for students up to Class 12. These restrictions will be in effect from today, June 12 to June 18, ensuring the safety and well-being of the students during this period of intense heat. "Whereas, it has been made to appear to me due to prevalent heat wave and prevailing high temperature in the district, health and life of children are at risk," Patna's district magistrate Dr. Chandra Shekhar Singh wrote in an official circular.

"Under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, do hereby prohibit the academic activities of all private, government schools (including pre-school and Anganwadi centre) of Patna district up to class 12 till 18 June 2023," the notification added.

Notably, the Jharkhand government has also closed the schools from today, June 12. All private and government schools in the state will be closed till June 14, 2023.

The decision was made by K Ravi Kumar, the secretary of the school education and literacy department, who issued an official order on Sunday. This closure applies to all categories of schools, including government, non-government aided/non-aided (including minority), and private schools across the state. The aim is to ensure the safety and well-being of students during this period of intense heatwave conditions.

According to the weather department, the prevailing weather conditions, including the heatwave, are expected to continue for at least the next five days in Jharkhand. Heatwave alerts have been issued for specific regions of the state until June 15, indicating the severity of the situation.
