Odisha: Medical Students Clash With Private Security Guards Of VIMSAR

A confrontation occurred between medical students and private security guards at VIMSAR.

Sambalpur: A clash erupted between the students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla and the hospital's private security personnel, police said. Both a medical student and a private security guard sustained injuries. As a result of the tension, the internal assessment examination for MBBS students, originally set for Thursday, was postponed, news agency PTI quoted an official as saying.

According to the police, a dispute between a medical student and a security guard escalated at the Gents Hostel of the institution late on Wednesday night. This disagreement eventually escalated into a physical altercation, during which certain medical students assaulted the security guard, necessitating his subsequent medical treatment, as reported by PTI.

However, a relative of the injured security guard arrived at the hospital and attacked a medical student, inflicting a head injury.

Based on the complaint filed by the medical students, it was alleged that security guards attacked house surgeon Praneet Kumar Pujari along with his colleagues Gauri Behera and Srinibas Pradhan with sticks while they were at the Casualty department of the hospital on Thursday, seeking treatment for a fellow student.

On the other hand, the security guards claimed that the medical students were responsible for critically injuring one of the security personnel. In response to this incident, the security guards held a meeting and organized a rally to go to the police station, where they filed a complaint against the medical students.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Burla, Satybrata Dash said, "We have detained a person in connection with the incident. The matter is under investigation and the situation is under control"
