Odisha Civil Services Prelims 2024 Exam Postponed Due To Cyclone Dana

The OPSC has postponed the Odisha Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2023-24 due to Cyclone Dana.

The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has announced the postponement of the Odisha Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2023-24, which was scheduled for October 27. This decision was made due to the impending severe cyclonic storm, Dana. Candidates can view the official exam postponement notice on the OPSC website, opsc.gov.in. 

"In view of the impending cyclonic storm 'Dana', the OCS Preliminary Examination-2023, pursuant to Advt. No. 20 of 2023-24, scheduled for 27.10.2024, is hereby postponed. The new date for the OPSC Preliminary Examination 2023 will be announced after 7 days," reads the official notification.

Candidates are advised to regularly check the official OPSC website for further updates. The recruitment drive aims to fill 399 vacancies in Group A and Group B positions within the department.

The Odisha Civil Services selection process consists of three main stages: Preliminary Exam, Main Exam, and Interview. The Preliminary Exam, which is the first stage, comprises two papers, each with a duration of two hours. The exam carries a total of 499 marks, and negative marking applies for incorrect answers.

The IMD has issued a warning of strong winds and severe weather conditions due to Cyclone “DANA,” advising fishermen to avoid going to sea until October 25.

According to the latest weather bulletin, the cyclonic storm "DANA" (pronounced as Dana) over the East-central Bay of Bengal has been moving northwest at a speed of 13 kmph over the last six hours. As of 11:30 AM IST on October 23, the storm was centered near latitude 16.7°N and longitude 89.3°E, approximately 490 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 520 km south-southeast of Dhamara (Odisha), and 570 km south-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal).

The storm is expected to continue moving northwest and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal by early morning on October 24. It is predicted to make landfall between the coasts of north Odisha and West Bengal, between Puri and Sagar Island, close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamara (Odisha), during the night of October 24 to the morning of October 25, 2024, with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph.
