Noida: All Schools To Remain Closed On Dec 29, 30 Due To Cold, Teachers To Work

In lieu of the increasing cold and dense fog, the Ghaziabad and Mathura district administrations earlier revised school timings for classes 1 to 8 from 10:00 am to 03:00 pm in both the districts.

In the light of the increasing cold wave across parts of North India and dense fog, the Gautam Buddha Nagar district administration has directed closure of all schools in the district on December 29 and 30, 2023. The Basic District Education, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Rahul Panwar, released an official notice directing the closure of schools in the district tomorrow. However, as per the order issued by Panwar, teachers and other staff shall continue to work on Friday and Saturday.

"In compliance with the instructions given by District Magistrate, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Maneesh Kumar Verma in view of the dense fog and extreme cold, all the boards (CBSE/ICSE/IB and others) recognised schools, council schools, government schools or non-government aided schools will observe holiday on December 29 and 30," Panwar was reported as saying in the official order by news agency PTI.

The order further underlines that the school closure shall apply for all classes starting from Nursery to Class 12. "All the teachers and employees working in the said schools will continue to be on duty as usual," he was further reported as saying.

Notably, the closure of schools from the Gautam Buddha Nagar district administration comes as a bid to safeguard school going children from the severe cold wave gripping several parts of North India. In a similar move, the Ghaziabad as well as Mathura district administrations earlier revised the school timings for classes 1 to 8 from 10:00 am to 03:00 pm. Similarly, the Uttar Pradesh government has also increased the winter vacation in schools across the state by 15 days, starting from December 31 to January 14, 2024.

However, schools in Delhi will be observing a shortened winter vacation this season from January 1 to 6, 2024. The restricted winter vacation for Delhi schools is aimed at covering up for the 15-day off granted for Delhi schools in November this year in the light of the intense pollution across Delhi-NCR.
