NIRF Ranking 2023: IISc Bengaluru, JNU, Jamia Ranked Top Universities In India, Check List Here

IISc Bengaluru has retained the number one position in the universities category of NIRF Ranking 2023.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework or NIRF Ranking 2023 has been announced. In the University category, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru has retained the top spot. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) bagged the second and third place respectively. Jadavpur University and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have secured fourth and fifth positions respectively. In the previous year, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham had claimed the fourth spot, while Banaras Hindu University (BHU) held the fifth position. It is noteworthy that the number of participating institutes has significantly increased from 3,500 colleges in 2016 to 8,686 this year, indicating a growing interest in the NIRF rankings.

The 8th edition of the NIRF ranking 2023 was announced by the Union Minister of State (MoS) for Education and External Affairs, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh.

The parameters on which institutes are ranked are teaching learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcome, outreach and inclusivity and perception.

Notably, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has established itself as the premier educational institute in India, consistently excelling in the overall category of rankings. The institute has retained its top position in the overall category for the fifth consecutive year, from 2019 to 2023. Furthermore, it has also secured the first rank in the engineering category for eight consecutive years, from 2016 to 2023. 

Following closely behind IIT Madras in the overall category rankings is the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, securing the second position. IIT-Delhi, IIT Bombay, and IIT Kanpur have also demonstrated their academic prowess and secured the third, fourth, and fifth positions, respectively.
