Preparing For NEET UG 2025? Expert Strategies For First-Time Success In Medical Entrance

NEET UG: While the syllabus remains unchanged from 2024, the exam structure retains its comprehensive coverage of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

By Ankit Vij

The National Testing Agency has made major reforms for NEET UG 2025, potentially shifting to computer-based testing while maintaining the existing syllabus. With over 20 lakh expected candidates, the exam retains its 720-mark structure across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Expert strategies emphasise NCERT mastery, time management, and consistent practice for success.

While the syllabus remains unchanged from 2024, as confirmed on NTA's new official website (neet.nta.nic.in), the exam structure retains its comprehensive coverage of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Scheduled tentatively for the first week of May 2025, NEET UG will maintain its 720-mark format across 180 questions to be attempted from a total of 200.

Here are some time-tested tips and strategies that can help aspirants ace the NEET UG 2025:

Mastering Fundamentals

Start by thoroughly covering the entire NCERT course with special emphasis on Physics (Mechanics, Electricity), Chemistry (Organic, Physical), and Biology (Human Physiology, Genetics). It is prudent to create comprehensive notes that focus on key concepts as it boosts both understanding and retention

Effective Time Management

With 3 hours and 20 minutes allotted for 180 questions, practice allocating appropriate time for every section. The exam timing (2 PM to 5:20 PM) requires endurance for which you must prepare accordingly through mock tests.

Strategic Section B Approach

Each subject's Section B offers choices (10 out of 15 questions). Develop your quick question selection skills to maximise scoring potential.

Practice Regular Self-Assessment

Attempt to answer previous years' questions and take mock tests to familiarize yourself with the exam pattern and improve time management.

Smart Study Planning

Start preparation at least one year in advance. Focus equally on Class 11th and 12th syllabus, as both carry significant weightage.

The exam will retain its negative marking scheme (-1 for incorrect answers) and continue offering questions in 13 languages. With approximately 20 lakh candidates expected to appear, thorough preparation becomes crucial. For aspirants concerned about the potential online transition, familiarizing themselves with computer-based test formats through practice modules would be beneficial. NTA is expected to provide detailed guidelines if the change is implemented.

Success in NEET demands consistent effort, strong conceptual understanding, and strategic time management. Regular practice combined with focused preparation can help achieve the desired results in this highly competitive medical entrance examination.
