NEET PG 2024: Supreme Court To Hear Petition Seeking Disclosure Of Answer Keys, Transparency Today

The Supreme Court will hear the peition today, seeking the disclosure of answer keys and question papers for the NEET-PG 2024 exam, alongside measures to enhance transparency. On September 13, the Supreme Court has sought a response from the National Board of Education (NBE) following a plea from NEET-PG aspirants. The bench, headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and including Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, agreed to review the matter and issued a notice to the NBE.

During the previous hearing, the petitioner's counsel argued that the NBE had failed to release either the question papers or the answer keys. Without access to the correct answers, candidates are unable to accurately assess their performance, undermining transparency. Additionally, the counsel noted discrepancies in the scorecards issued, claiming they did not match the candidates' expectations.

The petitioners have raised concerns over the lack of transparency and abrupt last-minute changes in the NEET-PG exam. They further alleged that the exam format was altered just a month before the scheduled date, and it was conducted in two shifts with different papers, in violation of NBE’s guidelines, which mandate a common examination.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) announced the NEET PG results on August 23, 2024. However, some candidates have raised concerns over discrepancies in their results, alleging that improper normalisation has led to unexpectedly low ranks. Many have compared their responses to unofficial answer keys from coaching institutes and are dissatisfied with their scores. These students are now calling on the NBE to release both the raw and normalized marks, along with the official answer key, to ensure transparency.

NEET PG 2024 exam was conducted by the NBEMS across 416 centers in 170 cities. The students who qualify the examination will have the opportunity to secure admission to 26,168 Doctor of Medicine (MD), 13,649 Master of Surgery (MS), 922 PG Diploma, and 1,338 DNB CET seats.
