Jharkhand: Students Protest Outside JSSC Office, Demand Cancellation Of Recruitment Exam

Students protested outside the JSSC office in Ranchi, demanding the cancellation of recruitment exams due to alleged malpractice.

Ranchi: Thousands of candidates demonstrated outside the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) office on Monday, demanding the cancellation of the recruitment examinations conducted last week, as reported by news agency PTI. A significant police presence has been deployed near the JSSC's office to prevent any untoward incidents, according to an official. Students from various parts of the state alleged 'malpractices' in the Jharkhand General Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination (JGGLCCE).

The protest, which began in the morning, is ongoing. The examinations were held at 823 centers on September 21 and 22, during which mobile internet services were suspended to deter malpractice.

In response to complaints, the JSSC established a three-member committee last week to investigate the allegations of malpractices following a letter from Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar urging the commission to address the students' concerns.

An agitating student shared that hundreds of students from Hazaribag and Ramgarh marched approximately 100 km on foot to the JSSC office in Ranchi on Sunday. "We were compelled to take to the streets. This government has failed to conduct even one examination in a fair manner," he stated.

Student leader Manoj Yadav claimed that they provided evidence of malpractice during the examination in three formats: written documents, a pen drive, and a CD. However, JSSC officials have alleged that the CD was blank and contained no content.

In a notice issued on Sunday, the JSSC stated that the CD submitted to the commission was completely empty. They also requested that students provide the original source of the evidence submitted via the pen drive by 3 PM at the commission's office.

In light of the protests, the Ranchi district administration imposed prohibitory orders under section 163 of BNSS within a 100-meter radius of the commission's office on September 26. This order will remain in effect until 10 PM on October 2.
