J&K Govt Renames 33 Educational Institutions, Roads After Martyrs, Eminent Personalities

The renaming of institutions by the Jammu and Kashmir administration comes as a move to immortalize the supreme sacrifice of martyrs towards the nation.

The government of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, January 30, ordered the renaming of thirty-three educational institutions, including schools and colleges, as well as roads, after the names of ‘martyrs and eminent personalities’ of Jammu and Kashmir. Among the newly renamed institutions after martyrs and eminent personalities, two are from the Kashmir Valley while the other 31 are in the Jammu region of the Union Territory.

In Kashmir's  Anantnag district, the Government Degree College (Boys) has been renamed after Late Himayun Muzamil Bhat, Dy.SP, who died in an encounter in Anantnag last year while  Government Boys High School, Narwara Srinagar, has been renamed after Late Masroor Ali Wani, an inspector who was killed by militants in a targeted attack.

“Sanction is hereby accorded to the naming of infrastructure/assets after the following martyrs/eminent personalities, as indicated against each,” reads the official order underlining the list of renamed institutions. The order further underlined that concerned Administrative Secretaries shall take immediate necessary steps, including amending their records, for effecting the changes and Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir/Jammu shall personally monitor the naming of the infrastructure/assets in their respective divisions.

The move from the J&K administration is aimed at immortalizing the supreme sacrifice of martyrs towards the nation.
