Students Beware! Fake News About Exam And Results Common On Social Media

There is still false news regarding exams and results circulating in social media like the recent one about UP Board results. It is important for students to verify the information before trusting it.

New Delhi: As the lockdown began educational institutes shut down abruptly. This created an atmosphere of confusion that is gradually going back to normalcy as several announcements regarding exams and results is giving more clarity to students. But fake news still continues to be a cause for stress.

Recently, it was widely circulated in social media that the UP-Board Class 12 results will be announced on June 9. This is in fact fake. UP’s Education Minister spoke with the media on various occasions and stated that the board is likely to release the results between June 20 and June 30. The final dates would be announced a few dates before the declaration.

But this is not the only one, ever since the lockdown students are being bombarded by false news about datasheets and even for increasing exam scores!

  • Last month many students were receiving calls from con artists impersonating as CBSE officials saying that they would increase the board marks in exchange for money. This is in fact dangerous and fake, CBSE issued an advisory for parents and students to be vigilant of such phone calls and should report to the local police authority should they receive such phone calls.
  • Before CBSE released the date sheet for pending exams in May, students fell prey to a fake date sheet of Class 10 and Class 12 which had gone viral in social media. The very official-looking document stated that exams will begin on July 1. The HRD ministry clarified that it was a false document and later announced the actual dates of the exam.

All students whether in school or college should check information from the official website or their respective institution. Even Delhi University students were advised not to fall for any unauthentic source of information regarding the undergraduate/ postgraduate (UG/PG/M.Phil/Ph.D) admissions.

In a varsity release it was mentioned, “All aspirant students of the University of Delhi are informed that the details of admission process and the schedule will be put up on the official website of the University of Delhi,”.

The information regarding the UG/ PG admission will be available soon on the website- du.ac.in. As per the tentative schedule, the admission process will begin on June 8 and will end by June 30, the first cut off is expected to come by August 11.

As several activities restart during the ongoing Unlock 1 phase, it is important to verify the information and not treat social media as an authentic source of information as it also is breeding ground for a lot of fake news.
