Delhi University Releases Admission Policy For 2022-23, CUET Mandatory

According to Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, eligibility will be determined based on Common University Entrance Test (CUET 2022) scores.

New Delhi: The admission policy for the 2022-23 academic year has been issued by Delhi University.

According to Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, eligibility will be determined based on Common University Entrance Test (CUET 2022) scores, news agency PTI reported.

"The candidates will be able to appear in CUET only in those subjects which they have taken in class XII. The merit will also be calculated on the basis of a combination of only those subjects in which the candidate has appeared in the CUET test," Singh said.

Singh described the new admission policy as a watershed moment, stating that, with the exception of the School of Open Learning and the National Collegiate Women's Education Board, admission to all undergraduate programmes would be via the Common University Entrance Test.

''It is mandatory for all candidates to appear in CUET-2022, including those seeking admission to supernumerary seats. The eligibility criteria will be decided on the basis of marks obtained in CUET,'' he said.

According to Singh, for the 50% of seats designated for minority institutions, the CUET would account for 85% of the marks for admission, while the remaining 15% will be selected by the colleges.

Admission to the non-reserved 50% seats will be based only on CUET, he stated.

Minority colleges, such as Jesus and Mary, St. Stephen's, and Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa, have 50% of their seats designated for minority students.

According to Haneet Gandhi, Dean (Admissions), applicants would be permitted to take the CUET only on topics that they covered in class 12. She also stated that the merit would be evaluated on the basis of a combination of just the topics in which the candidate has appeared in the CUET.

Changing the stream will cause no harm to anyone, according to Gandhi.

CUET-2022 is divided into three sections. According to her, the first half is separated into two halves, with 13 languages in the first and 20 languages in the second.

''It is mandatory for candidates to appear in at least one language for admission to the Delhi University, out of both these parts combined. The second section of the entrance exam consists of 27 domain-specific topics. The third section is based on general knowledge which will be for admission to BA programmes only,'' Gandhi said.

She stated that in order to get admission to most of the Delhi University's programmes, an applicant must select at least three topics from the second part, which is comprised of domain-specific subjects.

The second segment is divided into two lists, B1 and B2. Candidates must choose their subjects carefully so that no more than one subject is chosen at the same time.

Gandhi said that eligibility for admission to most B.Sc programmes will be determined by Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Biology. She stated that in CUET, students must get at least 30% in any one language.

To be enrolled on the Bachelor of Arts programme, a candidate must take the entrance exam in any one language from section one and any three topics from section two. Merit will be determined based on the candidate's performance in the same topic and language.

Candidates must take the CUET Mathematics test in order to get admission to BA (Hons) Economics. According to Gandhi, merit for this will be assessed based on marks received in the chosen language, Mathematics, and any two disciplines.

Registration For DU PG Courses Begins On Wednesday

Registration for postgraduate programmes at Delhi University will begin on Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh announced on Tuesday.

According to Singh, admissions to postgraduate degrees would be made through the Delhi University Entrance Test (DUET), as they were the previous year.

Candidates must register on the DU registration page for this, he explained.

The registration period will run from April 6 until May 15. The National Testing Agency will administer the DUET. Like the previous year, 50% of the places are reserved for DU students, while 50% of the students will be selected by DUET.

Twenty-eight cities have been chosen as test sites, with one in each state.

According to him, the admission exam would most likely be held in the third week of July.
