Delhi: School Bus Rams Into Another Van Carrying Students, 7 Children Injured

The accident between two school vehicles took place in southwest Delhi on Tuesday afternoon.

A school bus rammed into another school van in southwest Delhi on Tuesday afternoon, leaving as many as seven children and the van driver injured, as per the police. The injured were rushed to a hospital after the mishap where they were treated for minor injuries. In the meanwhile, the van driver is recovering in the hospital, the police said.  While the school bus belongs to St Thomas School in Dwarka, the eco van was ferrying students from Kendriya Vidyalaya Number 1.

All the children injured in the accident are below 7 years of age. Both the vehicles had a head-on collision. It is suspected that the bus was moving on the wrong side due to which the accident took place. A case under relevant section of the IPC has been registered and investigation is underway," a police officer was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. 

The 25-year-old bus driver Naveen Kumar fled from the spot after the accident, but was later arrested. Parents of students later took them to other hospitals for medical examination, said police.

Notably, in a similar incident earlier in July this year from Delhi-NCR, a school bus rammed into an SUV leaving six people dead. The unfortunate incident occurred on the Delhi-Meerut expressway in UP’s Ghaziabad. The bus driver was driving on the wrong side when it rammed into a SUV which was heading towards Gurgaon. 

After the collision, the bus dragged the SUV for several kilometres. Among the eight passengers in the SUV who were from the same family, six of them died while two were critically injured. The accident was so severe that the bosides of the deceased passengers of the SUV had to be taken out after cutting the doors of the car.
