Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Orders Probe Into Private School Fee Hike, Expulsions At Jan Samvad Event

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered an inquriy into the alleged arbitrary fee hikes and student expulsions by private schools.

The issue of arbitrary fee hikes and student expulsions by private schools in Delhi has reached the Chief Minister’s public grievance forum — named 'Jan Samvad'. Several parents and students from Queen Mary School in Model Town raised serious allegations against the school administration, accusing it of unjustly collecting fees and expelling children when parents refused to comply.

Responding swiftly, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed the Education Department officials to launch an immediate investigation and take strict action against those found guilty. Gupta said, "Parents of children from some schools are constantly meeting me and telling me their problems. It is certain that no school has the right to harass any parent or child, threaten to expel them from school or increase the general fees."

There are rules and laws for this, which are very important to follow. If any school is found violating this, then it will have to bear the consequences. We have issued notices to all the schools against which we are receiving complaints," she said

She also shared a video of the development on X (formerly Twitter), reaffirming her government’s firm stance on transparency and accountability in education. In her post, CM Gupta stated, "The Delhi government is fully committed to ensuring transparency, equal opportunities, and the protection of children's rights in the education sector. We follow a zero-tolerance policy against injustice, exploitation, or irregularities — no leniency will be tolerated."

The Chief Minister stressed that every child deserves justice, dignity, and access to quality education, and the government will not tolerate any obstacles in their learning journey.
