Delhi: 500 SSA Teachers Removed By MCD Stage Protest Against AAP Government
The protesting teachers have been demanding the reinstatement of teachers and the recruitment of teachers on vacant posts.
Around 500 Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers who were removed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi staged a protest against the AAP government today. The protest was staged at Delhi's Civil Lines area. The protesting teachers demanded the repealing of MCD’s July 13 order, and the reinstatement of SSA teachers. The teachers also demanded the appointment of SSA teachers on the vacant 1400 positions.
Notably, MCD teachers have been protesting against the MCD’s recent teachers transfer policy. Earlier on October 10, the teachers also staged protests outside the civic centre, against the move. The teachers were also joined by leader of opposition Raja Iqbal Singh and eight BJP councillors. The MCDs’s new policy suggests the requirement of teachers in MCD schools as on the basis of attendance, and not on admissions.

Following the policy changes, the MCD notified that asd per the new rule, there were 597 ‘surplus’ teachers. "Based on a survey, MCD had shown that there were 597 'surplus’ teachers. On the contrary, there are still thousands of vacancies," Kuldeep Khatri from Akhil Delhi Prathmik Sikshak Sangh was quoted as saying in a Times of India report.
“We demanded that no surplus teacher should be transferred and the actual vacancy position of teachers should be shown on the transfer portal as per student-teacher ratio and enrolment of students,” Khatri was further reported as saying.
