Assam: Schools In Kamrup Metro To Remain Close Till September 27 Amid Heatwave Concerns

Kamrup Metro schools will close from September 24-27, 2024, due to rising temperatures and health risks, as approved by the District Commissioner, to protect students from dehydration and heat-related issues.

In response to the escalating temperatures and the resulting health hazards, schools in the Kamrup Metro district will be closed from September 24 to 27, 2024. This precautionary measure, approved by the District Commissioner, aims to protect students from the severe effects of excessive heat and dehydration, which have already caused numerous incidents of ill-health and fainting across various educational institutions. The directive, ensuring the safety and well-being of students, mandates an immediate shutdown of all government, provincialized, and private schools within the district.

"Based on the reports received from Head of the Institutions of different schools under Kamrup Metro regarding various incidents of ill-health and fainting of students due to excessive heat and dehydration and with due approval from District Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, it has been decided that all Govt/ Provincialized/ Private schools functioning under Kamrup Metro district are to remain close from 24th to 27th September 2024 due to excessive heat and rising temperature in the district," the administration said in an official notice.

"This decision has been taken in order to safeguard the students from the ill-effects of exposure to excessive heat and thereby, ensuring the health and well-being of the students. This order comes with immediate effect," the official notice added.

Flood Situation in Patna: School Closures Extended

In Patna, Bihar, the Ganga is flowing one meter above the danger mark, causing flooding in many areas for over a week. The impact of the flood is particularly severe in the lower regions. In light of this situation, Patna District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh has ordered 76 schools in the district to be closed until September 26.

Initially, these schools were ordered to be closed until September 17, and then the closure was extended to September 21. However, considering that the flood situation has not yet improved, the holiday for schools has now been further extended until September 26.
