ABP CVoter Survey: 56% Support Class 12 Exam Cancellation; 76% Want NEET, JEE To Be Held Online

To know the mood of the people, ABP News conducted a snap poll along with CVoter on Class 12 exam cancellation. As per the results, while 56% support class 12 exam cancellation, 76% want entrance exams of college to be held online.

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday cancelled Class 12 Board Exams 2021 in view of the second wave of Coronavirus pandemic. The decision was taken during a high-end meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The decision was announced after PM Modi was briefed on all possible options that have emerged following extensive discussions with all states and other stakeholders.

To know the mood of the people, ABP News conducted a snap poll along with CVoter on Class 12 exam cancellation wherein 5,422 participants shared their views.

In the opinion poll conducted in the aftermath of the Union Government’s decision to cancel class 12 exams of CBSE and ICSE, the majority of the respondents - 56.4% approved the government’s decision. Similarly, 56.6% of those interviewed during the state opined that state board exams for class 12 should also be cancelled because of the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country.

Notably, while several states like Rajasthan, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttarakhand have cancelled the Class 12 board exams, Chhattisgarh is holding offline exams. Others including Karnataka and Odisha are yet to announce the final decision.

The majority of the respondents said, while career is important for students, health risks should be avoided keeping in view of the spread of the deadly virus in the country and opined that conducting offline exams can prove fatal.

Notably, 60% of those surveyed said that cancelling Class 12th exams can have an adverse impact on the career of the students and to avoid such a situation Government should opt for an alternate mechanism like digital mediums to conduct various exams. A whopping majority of the respondents - 76.4% said that government should think about using digital mediums to conduct various competitive exams like IIT/JEE, NEET and admissions in Universities and colleges in a fair manner to prevent loss of a career year of the students.

However, 60% of the respondents expressed concern about the digital divide in the country and said that children not having access to digital platforms, especially in the rural areas will be in a disadvantageous position. A large number of respondents said that government should work on improving digital infrastructure in rural areas of the country, to face such challenges in future.

Notably, a large number of respondents expressed concern about Covid vaccines not being available for the students in this age group; 63% of the respondents asserted that government should work towards getting the vaccine for the students in this age at the earliest, as they are at the crucial stage of their career.

A large number of respondents 46.2% said that the government had an option of postponing the exams and conduct exams at a later stage after getting children in this age group fully vaccinated.
