21-Year-Old NEET Aspirant Dies By Suicide In Kota; No Anti-Hanging Device Found

A 21-year-old NEET aspirant died by suicide in Kota. No anti-hanging device was found in his room, and the reasons for his death remain unclear.

A 21-year-old student, who had recently arrived in Kota to prepare for the NEET exam, took his own life under circumstances that remain unclear. Originally from Barsana, Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, the student was staying in a rented room in the Purana Jawahar Nagar locality while preparing for medical entrance exams through a private coaching institute. He had only been in Kota for seven days when he took this drastic step. He is believed to have died by hanging, but the reasons for his suicide are still unclear. An investigation into the incident is underway.

According to Jawahar Nagar Police Station Sub-Inspector Gopal Lal Bairwa, 21-year-old Parshuram, son of Khacharmal from Manpur Barsana in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, was found dead. His landlord, Anoop Kumar, informed the police at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday. In response, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Taylor, Station Officer Harinarayan Sharma, and other officers arrived at the scene. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was also called to collect evidence, and the body was shifted to the MBS Hospital mortuary.

Guidelines Not Followed, No Anti-Hanging Device Found

Many hostels and PG accommodations in Kota are reportedly not adhering to district administration guidelines. In this case, the room where the student died had no Anti-Hanging device, a preventive measure ordered by the authorities. The district administration had previously instructed all PGs and hostels to install such devices in rooms. Additionally, there was no trained gatekeeper on site. A detailed report will be submitted to the authorities regarding the incident.

Sub-Inspector Gopal Lal Bairwa reported that the landlord last saw Parshuram in the evening when he was drying his clothes. When Parshuram was not seen afterward, the landlord knocked on his door. Upon receiving no response, he notified the police. The reason behind Parshuram’s suicide remains unknown. This marks the 12th case of a coaching student dying by suicide in Kota this year. The student's family has been informed, and they have arrived in Kota. After a post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family.

'We Asked Him To Come Back Home,' Says Uncle

The student’s uncle, Chatar Singh, expressed his grief, stating, “Our child wasn’t like this. We worked hard as laborers to educate him. He had been preparing for two years and had only returned to Kota on August 30. This matter should be investigated thoroughly. He used to talk to us often, and we were calling him, but he didn’t pick up. After that, we came to Kota."
