Rain Brings Respite From Heat In Delhi-NCR Amid Mega G20 Summit In National Capital

A fresh downpour lashed several parts of Delhi late Saturday evening, providing relief from the heat as the maximum temperature dropped two degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius.

Several parts of Delhi witnessed a refreshing spell of rain late Saturday (September 9) evening, providing relief from the oppressive heat. The maximum temperature, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), was 32 degrees Celsius, two degrees lower than usual for this time of year.

The G20 Leaders' Summit is being held at the newly-built international convention and exhibition centre — Bharat Mandapam — at Pragati Maidan on Saturday and Sunday.

According to the IMD, the minimum temperature was recorded at 23.2 degrees Celsius, also registering two notches below the seasonal average.

Parts of South West Delhi including- Vasant Kunj, Munirka, and Narela areas witnessed light rainfall in the early hours of Saturday.

Over a 24-hour period leading up to 8.30 AM, the national capital received 10 mm of rainfall. The weather office noted that relative humidity ranged from 87 percent to 98 percent during this time.

The Met Department's forecast for Sunday predicts generally cloudy skies with the possibility of light rain or drizzle.

The IMD anticipates maximum and minimum temperatures to hover around 34 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.

As part of its efforts to provide specialised and real-time weather forecasts, the IMD has installed an additional automatic weather station near Pragati Maidan, the site of the G20 Summit that commenced on Saturday.

It is to be noted that in July, heavy rains coupled with the release of water from the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana resulted in flooding in low-lying areas of the national capital and its surrounding regions.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several Maharashtra districts, warning residents of heavy rain. The yellow alert indicates that there is a chance of isolated heavy rain with localised flooding in low-lying areas.

The alert includes Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, and warns residents and authorities to brace themselves for heavy rain in the next 24 to 48 hours. The IMD forecast calls for heavy rain in isolated areas of Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg on Saturday.
