Flood Alert In Noida After Hindon River Swells Up, 200 People Evacuated From 5 Villages
The sudden rise in the water level of the Hindon River in Uttar Pradesh has led to the submergence of low-lying areas in Noida and Ghaziabad. Meanwhile, a flood warning has been sounded in Noida.
Amid the rising threat of flood in Delhi due to Yamuna breaching the danger mark yet again, a flood alert has been issued for adjacent Noida forcing authorities to undertake evacuation operations, reported PTI. The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration has issued a flood warning for low-lying regions along the Hindon as water discharge in the river increased, officials said on Sunday, as quoted by PTI. They said that around 200 people from five villages have been evacuated and moved to shelter homes following the alert. As of now, the Hindon River is flowing below the danger mark of 205-metre in the district, according to a senior officer, as quoted by PTI.
"Around 200 people from five villages have been evacuated and shifted to shelter homes that have been set up by the administration to provide them accommodation, food and health care," Additional District Magistrate Atul Kumar told PTI.
"The Hindon is currently flowing at 200-metre, below the danger mark of 205-metre," Kumar was further quoted as saying. Kumar is also the nodal officer for flood relief work in Gautam Buddh Nagar.
According to PTI, the district, which is located between Hindon and Yamuna rivers, recently witnessed floods along the Yamuna river banks. Rising waters have submerged 550 hectares of low-lying land and impacted thousands of people and animals.
North Indian states are reeling under severe monsoon mayhem as roads are flooded, rivers are flowing over the danger mark, and waterlogging is hindering all kinds of commute leaving residents helpless. After wreaking havoc in the hill states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, heavy showers in Maharashtra, and Gujarat have created a flood-like situation in the two states. Meanwhile, a cloudburst in Ladakh and a fresh spell of rain in Uttarakhand have raised the threat of a rise in the water level again in Delhi which has witnessed the worst flooding since 1978.
