The two accused were arrested from their houses in Delhi's Pitampura and Haryana's Gurugram.

Delhi News: Two brothers who were on the run for 24 years in a kidnapping case in the national capital have been arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch, officials said on Saturday, as reported by news agency PTI.

According to PTI, the two accused were identified as Vinit Aggarwal (50) and Puneet Aggarwal (48). The officials said that they were arrested from their houses in Delhi's Pitampura and Haryana's Gurugram, respectively, on Thursday. Vinit works as a trader of plastic items in the Bawana industrial area, while Puneet is a dry fruit dealer in the Khari Baoli area of the national capital.

Speaking on the matter, Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) RS Yadav stated that the duo, along with one Suneet Aggarwal, were allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a shopkeeper from Kinari Bazar in Chandni Chowk in north Delhi's Kotwali area in 2000.

Yadav further stated that the two charged him a ransom of Rs 50,000 and later left him near the Tughlak Road in central Delhi, PTI reported. Suneet and Vinit were arrested after the incident, but Puneet was absconding, he added.

During interrogation, the duo disclosed that they committed the crime to earn easy money, the officer added.

According to the accused, after the incident, they went to Mumbai, remained there for ten years, and did not contact anyone during the period, PTI reported. The police said that they returned to Delhi in 2010.
