Goa Murder Case: Suchana's Estranged Husband Records Statement, Start-Up CEO Shares 'Key Details' — Top Points

In his statement before investigating officer, Suchana’s estranged husband Venkat Raman said he was not allowed to meet their child for the last five Sundays.

New Delhi: The estranged husband of Bengaluru start-up CEO, Suchana Seth, accused of murdering her four-year-old son, recorded his statement with the Goa police on Saturday, news agency PTI. Meanwhile, four days after her arrest, Seth shared some key details what the police termed as “voluntary disclosure” about the incident.

Here's what we know about the case so far:

  • In his statement before investigating officer (IO) Paresh Naik as part of the investigation, Suchana’s estranged husband Venkat Raman said he was not allowed to meet their child for the last five Sundays.
  • While Raman refused to speak to the media, his lawyer said he was so grief-stricken that he had almost gone “numb”, PTI reported. "He can die for his son but will now have to live without him. My client has no claim for justice for himself or the child, who is no more,” PTI quoted his lawyer as saying.
  • His lawyer said Raman did not have an idea what led to the crime and the trigger for the crime could have been that Suchana did not want her son to meet his father or have any emotional attachment.
  • The lawyer further said the custody battle for their son was underway and in November, the court had allowed the father to meet his child at home.
  • "Suchana had insisted the father should meet his son in a child friendly environment like some cafe. Raman was supposed to meet his son on January 7 in Bengaluru. He went to the house at 10am and waited till 11am. He sent a message to Suchana but got no reply,” PTI quoted Raman’s lawyer as saying. However, in his statement, Raman told police that Suchana did not allow him to meet their son for the last five Sundays.
  • According to police, Suchana made a “last minute plan” to visit Goa. As per her initial plan, she wanted to stay in south Goa’s Palolem, but after she failed to find a hotel, she checked in with her son at a hotel in Candolim.
  • Police further said during her stay at the hotel, Suchana did not make or receive any calls, as per her call records.
  • According to reports, based on Suchana’s statement, police took two-and-half hours to recreate the crime scene on Friday. As per her disclosure statement, which the police claim is “contradictory in parts”, Suchana claimed she attempted suicide with a piece of cutlery at the hotel. She also booked one-way flight ticket from Bengaluru to Goa as she might have planned to return by road, police said.
