Fire Breaks Out At Garment Showroom In Northeast Delhi, One Person Missing

The fire erupted in a shop located on the ground floor of a four-storey building in Durgapuri. The third and fourth floors of the building are residential and were evacuated after the fire.

A fire broke out at a garment showroom in northeast Delhi's Durgapuri area on Monday morning. The fire was reported at 6 am and nearly 20 fire tenders were subsequently dispatched to the site, Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officials were quoted as saying by PTI.

DFS official A.K. Jaiswal was quoted by The Times Of India as saying, “We sent adequate number of vehicles at that time. The number of fire tenders was then increased. Work is underway, we have made an entry inside. Search operation is underway."

While the shop is on the ground floor of the affected building, the upper floors are used for residential purposes, PTI reported the official as saying.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey told IANS that, when the fire broke out, the building was evacuated safely but one person, identified as Jitender a.k.a Chotu, remains missing.

No reports of casualties have been received so far, the DSF officials said.

“The four-floor property is built on a plot of 150 yards and owned by Padam Singh and his brother Sanjay. A Raymond outlet was being run from the Ground Floor. Godown is located on the second floor, while living quarters are on the third and fourth floors,” DCP (Northeast) Joy Tirkey told IANS.

“Almost 20 fire tenders were pressed into service. Ten fire tenders are still at the site. Work is in progress,” the DCP said.
