Delhi Excise Policy Scam: Court Extends Custody Of AAP MP Sanjay Singh Till October 13

The AAP leader was produced in the Rouse Avenue Court after five days of ED custody.

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Tuesday extended AAP leader Sanjay Singh's custody till October 13 after he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an alleged Delhi excise policy-related money laundering case.

The AAP leader was produced in the Rouse Avenue Court after five days of ED custody, ANI reported.

ED had sought five days of further custody because Singh was not cooperating, and not telling about his old phone. "His close associate Sarvesh Mishra is also not cooperating," ED told the court.

The agency also said that material collected shows that a bribe was demanded to clear liquor licences.

The court also directed Sanjay Singh not to talk to the media while being produced, saying it creates a security problem, news agency PTI reported. Special Judge MK Nagpal made the observations after Singh, before entering the courtroom, spoke to reporters.

The judge also directed media personnel not to ask him questions while he is being produced.“It also creates security problem,” the judge said.

Talking to reporters, Singh had claimed, “Honest people are with us while dishonest are with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The arguments on his further remand application, filed by the ED, are currently underway."

Sanjay Singh was arrested on October 4 by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the 2021-22 Delhi Excise policy case. Singh is the second big leader to be arrested from the party after former Delhi Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested in the same matter. Prior to this, former Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain was also arrested in a money laundering case.

The AAP and other opposition parties have slammed the Narendra Modi-led BJP government for the ED action on Singh and accused the saffron party of misusing central agencies ahead of the elections.

Meanwhile, the AAP has claimed that the leader was arrested because he raised questions about Adani.
