Crane Operator Dies After Portion Of Under-Construction Flyover Collapses In Delhi
A crane operator died after a portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed in Delhi.
In a tragic incident, a crane operator died on Wednesday after a portion of an under-construction flyover collapsed near National Highway-48 in southwest Delhi, police said, reported PTI. Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Manoj C said that the person was injured when a span of the flyover near Samalkha collapsed. Police said that the man was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries, the PTI report said.
In another incident, a bridge over the Mindhola River in Gujarat's Vyara collapsed on Wednesday which connected the villages of Maipur to Degama in the Tapi district of Gujarat. About 15 villages have been affected by the collapse of the bridge, reported ANI.
Executive Engineer Nirav Rathod said, "The construction work of the bridge started in 2021, which cost Rs 2 crore. An investigation will be conducted by experts to determine the cause of the bridge collapse."
Meanwhile in Bihar, the body of a security guard who went missing after the collapse of the four-lane Sultanganj-Aguwani Ghat bridge being built across the Ganga in Bihar's Bhagalpur district has been found in Kauwakol block ten days after the incident, an official said. Workers engaged in the removal of debris of the collapsed bridge found the body from the flood plain of Kauwakol block, the official told the news agency PTI.
The deceased has been identified as Vibhash Kumar, who was working as a guard for the Haryana-based private firm that was constructing the bridge. Deployed on pillar number 10 of the Sultanganj-Aguwani Ghat bridge, which collapsed on June 4, Vibhash Kumar went missing since then.
A day after the collapse, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had said that strict action would be taken against those found guilty.
"The bridge that collapsed had also collapsed last year. It is not being constructed properly that is the reason it collapsed twice since April 2022", the CM had told reporters.
