Bomb Threat In Delhi Schools Turns Out To Be Hoax, DCP Reassures Parents As Panic Grips National Capital

Delhi education minister Atishi requested parents and citizens not to panic, addding that the Delhi government is in constant touch with the schools.

The emails sent to several schools in Delhi-NCR containing bomb threats turned out to be hoax, said District Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, Devesh Kumar Mahla. Panic gripped throughout the national capital on Wednesday morning after over 60 calls were received by the Delhi Fire Service regarding bomb threats in schools.  

"We've checked all the schools and nothing has been found, there is no need to panic," the DCP said. 

As many as 50 schools in Delhi-NCR, including Mother Mary's, received bomb threats via email after which the institutions were evacuated and authorities were informed. Upon receiving the information, the bomb disposal squad and fire tenders were rushed to service.

Mother Mary School at Mayur Vihar, Delhi Public School at Dwarka, Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Delhi Public School at Vasant Kunj, Amity School in Saket, and Delhi Public School in Noida, Sector 122 were some of the schools that were threats via email, as per the police officials.

"We got information that the same email was sent to several schools at around 4:15 am," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West Rohit Meena. 

"Checking is underway at all the schools and our technical wing is investigating the email. Through the initial investigation, it seems that this is a mass email," he added.

Delhi education minister Atishi urged the parents and citizens to remain calm, adding that the Delhi government is in constant touch with the Police and schools. 

"Some schools have received bomb threats today morning. Students have been evacuated and those premises are being searched by Delhi Police. So far nothing has been found in any of the schools," Atishi said. 

"We are in constant touch with the Police and the schools. Would request parents and citizens not to panic. School authorities will be in touch with parents wherever needed," she assured.
