United Airlines Plane Catches Fire During Takeoff At Houston Airport, 104 Passengers Evacuated — Caught On Camera

United Airlines Flight 1382 evacuated after an engine fire forced takeoff abort. Passengers used stairs and an emergency slide to exit the aircraft.

A United Airlines flight bound for New York was evacuated on Sunday morning after a fire broke out during takeoff, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA reported that United Airlines Flight 1382 had to abort its takeoff from George Bush Intercontinental Airport around 8:35 am due to a “reported engine issue.”

Footage obtained by FOX 26 Houston showed flames visible on the wing of the aircraft. In the video, a flight attendant can be heard instructing passengers to remain seated, while one traveller is heard exclaiming, “No, it’s on fire!”

Passengers were evacuated using stairs and the emergency slide, as per the Houston Fire Department. The video from the scene also showed a group of passengers standing on the tarmac.

Authorities later confirmed that no injuries were reported. The Houston Fire Department clarified that there was no need to extinguish any fire related to the incident, FOX 26 Houston reported.

The aircraft involved, an Airbus A319, was scheduled to fly to LaGuardia Airport in New York. The flight was carrying 104 passengers and five crew members, as per FOX 26 Houston. A replacement aircraft is scheduled to depart for New York at 12:30 pm, according to Houston Airport officials.

The FAA is currently investigating the cause of the incident.

When United Airlines Plane Rolled Off Runway At Houston Airport

This evacuation follows a similar incident last year when passengers had to be evacuated from another United Airlines plane after it rolled off a runway and got stuck in the grass at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport. United Airlines reported that no injuries occurred among the 160 passengers and six crew members on board Flight 2477. Video footage taken after landing showed the Boeing 737 Max 8 tilted to one side, with one of its wings nearly touching the ground.

Flight 2477 from Memphis, Tennessee had landed at Bush Intercontinental Airport around 8:00 am and was rolling toward a terminal gate when the aircraft left the pavement. The Houston Airport System confirmed in a statement that stairs were brought to the plane, and all passengers were safely assisted off the aircraft.
