26 Govt Hospitals To Reserve 2 Beds Each For Heatstroke Patients As Severe Heatwave Grips Delhi

Delhi Health minister Saurabh Bharadwaj stated 26 government hospitals in Delhi will have 2 beds each for heatstroke patients amid the sweltering heatwave in the capital.

Amid the sweltering heatwave in the national capital, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj stated that the twenty six government-run hospitals in Delhi will reserve two beds each for heatstroke patients. 

In addition to this, five beds will be reserved at the Lok Nayak Hospital (LNJP Hospital), Saurabh Bharadwaj said, as reported by news agency PTI.

The decision was made during a meeting held by the Delhi Health Minister with health department officials. The meeting was aimed at discussing the east neonatal hospital fire that claimed the lives of seven newborns and the ongoing heatwave conditions in Delhi.

"In view of the ongoing heatwave conditions, 26 government-run hospitals will reserve two beds each for patients while five beds will be reserved at LNJP Hospital," Bharadwaj told PTI.

According to the India Meteorological Department, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions accompanied by strong surface winds are likely to prevail on May 27. The Met office also predicted the maximum temperature to settle around 46 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature today was recorded at 29.2 degrees Celsius, which was 2.6 notches above normal. The relative humidity at 8.30 AM, stood at 48 per cent, IMD stated.

The weather department has forecast mainly clear skies along with heatwave to severe heatwave conditions and strong surface winds in Delhi.

IMD has also issued a heatwave to severe heatwave warning in Delhi till May 29.

"Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions likely in many parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, few parts of West Rajasthan, isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh and heatwave conditions likely in isolated pockets of Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh from May 27-29," IMD said in its forecast.
