Rajasthan: Man Kills Estranged Wife In Phalodi's District, Probe Underway

A woman who had distanced herself from her husband following a dispute, was shot at her store in Phalodi, Rajasthan.

A man fatally shot his estranged wife at her store in Phalodi district of Rajasthan on Sunday, the police was quoted as saying by news agency PTI in its report. The police said that following an altercation between the two, the man shot her.

"The accused had been living separately from his wife for two years due to a dispute between them. He reached her shop on Nagaur Road and after an altercation, shot her," a police officer stated, as per the news agency.

Emergency services rushed the victim to a hospital, where medical professionals pronounced her dead upon arrival.

The accused, identified as Mahiram, fled the scene, prompting a search operation by law enforcement to apprehend him.

Meanwhile, in the Kotputli-Behror district, a 25-year-old rape victim is in critical condition after being shot and brutally assaulted with a sharp weapon near a flyover close to a police station on Saturday, according to The Times Of India. The attackers, armed with iron rods and a chaff-cutter, also assaulted and injured her brother. Currently, she is undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital in Jaipur, approximately 100 km from Pragpura. Although her brother's condition is stable, he is deeply affected by the traumatic events.

The attackers fled the scene after they thought the woman had died. Kotputli-Behror SP Vandita Rana stated that police arrested two suspects on Sunday, a 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old, both residents of Pragpura. Meanwhile, authorities are actively conducting a manhunt to apprehend the main accused.

In June 2023, she had filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused over rape and blackmail, while he was arrested, he was soon released. The man had been pressuring the family to withdraw the complaint and agree to a settlement. 

As per TOI, her lawyer said that despite filing complaints, including one on November 23, the police did not take any action. The family claimed that the accused had located her workplace and would extort half of her Rs 17,000 salary by threatening to share compromising photos and videos of her on social media.

She had also reported threats to her life and concerns about the safety of her family members.
