Mumbai Man Accused Of Chopping, Boiling Live-In Partner's Body Says She Died By Suicide, Police To Verify Claims

Mumbai Mira Road murder case: Accused Manoj Sane claimed that his live-in partner died by suicide and he decided to dispose of her body as he was scared that he would be accused of killing her.

A new twist has emerged in the Mumbai Mira Road murder case as 56-year-old accused Manoj Sane claimed that his deceased live-in partner 32-year-old Saraswati Vaidya died by suicide on June 3. He decided to dispose of her body as he was scared that he would be accused of killing her, Manoj told the police. Manoj is accused of murdering Saraswati and chopping her body into pieces before boiling them in a pressure cooker. The murder was discovered by the police after neighbours of the Geeta Akash Deep Building Flat J-704 complained of an unbearable stench.

According to news agency ANI, the accused told the police during his questioning that Saraswati Vaidya died by suicide on June 3. "He was scared that he would be accused of killing her, so he decided to dispose of her body. He told the Police that he chopped her body into pieces and boiled them in a pressure cooker to avoid the stench," Vasai-Virar Police stated.

"He also told the Police that he had decided to end his life after that and doesn't regret any of it," ANI also reported the cops as saying.

Police are verifying the accused's claim of the suicide of the deceased. The investigation is underway and the pieces of the body recovered from the house have been sent to JJ Hospital for postmortem. We have doubts about his claim of suicide, the police told ANI.

Mumbai Mira Road Murder Case: Police Found Feet, A Few Other Body Parts

The police found three buckets of blood and body parts. They also found the body parts in a pressure cooker. Manoj allegedly chopped the body into 20 pieces. Police could find only Saraswati’s feet and a few other body parts.

The summer heat only quickened the decomposition and the stench made it extremely difficult for the cops to carry out the recovery operation. There was no refrigerator in the house and it appeared that Manoj tried to keep the odour at bay using air fresheners. Police arrested Manoj on Wednesday night.

"The local police received information of a foul smell emanating from a flat. After the lock was broken, police found chopped pieces of a body in utensils and buckets. The accused has been arrested," says Mumbai DCP Jayant Bajbale said. A Thane court on Thursday remanded Manoj to police custody till June 16.

The incident was a reminder of the grisly Delhi murder case, in which call centre employee Shraddha Walkar was murdered and chopped into pieces allegedly by her live-in partner Aftab Poonawala, who was a chef at a hotel. The body parts were then stored in a refrigerator. Every night, Aftab would take out a few pieces and dispose them off in a nearby forest.
