Trump Accuses 'Governor Trudeau' Of Using Tariff War To 'Stay In Power', Slams Canada's 'Weak Border Policies'
In a social media post on Truth Social, Trump revealed that he had a "somewhat friendly" call with Trudeau, a day after the US imposed 25 percent tariffs on imports from Canada.

United States President Donald Trump accused Justin Trudeau of using the ongoing tariff war between Canada and US to "stay in power" and slammed the neighbouring country's efforts to curb the inflow of fentanyl "not good enough".
In a social media post on Truth Social, Trump revealed that he had a "somewhat friendly" call with Trudeau after the US imposed 25 percent tariffs on imports from Canada, and went on to take a dig on Trudeau of "allowing tremendous amounts" of fentanyl, a synthetic drug, and illegal immigrants into the US.
He said that when he questioned Trudeau about the Canadian elections, he was unable to tell him about it, which made Trump curious about what was going on. "I then realized he is trying to use this issue to stay in power," Trump said.
"Justin Trudeau, of Canada, called me to ask what could be done about tariffs. I told him that many people have died from fentanyl that came through the borders of Canada and Mexico, and nothing has convinced me that it has stopped. He said that it's gotten better, but I said, 'That's not good enough.' The call ended in a 'somewhat' friendly manner!" the US President said.
"He was unable to tell me when the Canadian Election is taking place, which made me curious, like, what’s going on here? I then realized he is trying to use this issue to stay in power. Good luck Justin!" he added.

Trump Slams Canada's 'Weak Border Policies'
Trump's remarks came after the US imposed 25 percent tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, which the US President justified as a measure taken to curb the flow of fentanyl into the US and to tackle illegal immigration. In retaliation, Canada imposed 25 percent tariffs on 30 billion Canadian dollars worth of goods from US exporters. It also filed a complaint with the World Trade Organisation (WTO), seeking consultations with the US over "unjustified tariffs".
Trudeau, in January, stepped down from his post as the Canadian PM, but stated that he would continue until a new leader was appointed.
Slamming Canada's "weak border policies", Trump, in another post, wrote: "For anyone who is interested, I also told Governor Justin Trudeau of Canada that he largely caused the problems we have with them because of his weak border policies, which allowed tremendous amounts of fentanyl, and illegal aliens, to pour into the US. These policies are responsible for the death of many people!"
After US imposed the tariffs on Canada, Trudeau on Tuesday announced similar retaliatory measures and called Trump's decision a "very dumb thing to do".
