'You Want To Ruin Her Life': Bombay HC Orders Release Of Pune Student Arrested For Critical Post On Op Sindoor

The second-year Information Technology student was rusticated by the Sinhgad Academy of Engineering in Pune on May 9 after an FIR was registered against her at the Kondhwa police station.

The Bombay High Court on Monday ordered immediate release of a 19-year-old engineering student who was arrested for her social media post on the Indo-Pakistan conflict.

The high court came down heavily on the Maharashtra government and Pune institution for rusticating the engineering student and arresting her, saying "you want to ruin the life of a student?"

The second-year Information Technology student was rusticated by the Sinhgad Academy of Engineering in Pune on May 9 after an FIR was registered against her at the Kondhwa police station. The girl was arrested on the same day and was lodged in Yerawada jail.

The woman had sought for an urgent hearing from the Bombay High Court seeking quashing the rustication and reinstating her into the college and allow her to appear for the semester exams, which begins from May 24. Her counsel had citing her ongoing semester examinations, saying the student's liberty was snatched.

During the hearing, Justice Godse asked the the lawyer representing the institute, "What is this? What kind of conduct is this? Someone expresses something, you want to ruin the life of a student?"

The court further asked the lawyer how can she be rusticated like this and sought explanation.

"How can you rusticate like this? Did you call for any explanation? We understand you want to take some action, but you cannot refrain her from appearing for exams. Let her appear for the remaining papers," the judge asked.
