'Will Work With Full Honesty, Dedication': Rekha Gupta's First Reaction After Becoming Delhi CM

Rekha Gupta, who is an MLA from Shalimar Bagh, said she will work with full honesty, integrity and dedication for the welfare and overall development of Delhi.

Delhi CM-desingate Rekha Gupta, who was selected by BJP legislators after a crucial meeting in the national capital, has reacted to her selection for the top post.

The Shalimar Bagh MLA said she will work with full honesty, integrity and dedication for the welfare and overall development of Delhi.

"Will work with full honesty, integrity, dedication for welfare and overall development of Delhi," Rekha Gupta said shortly after being named as the Delhi CM.

Shortly after the announcement, there were celebrations at the CM-designate's residence where her supporters and family gathered and raised slogans in her support. Her sister-in-law said, "The family is very happy with her win..."

Rekha Gupta was chosen as the Leader of the House in the Delhi Assembly at the BJP legislature party meeting. The party has returned to power in Delhi after over 26 years.

Gupta and her Cabinet ministers will take the oath of office at the Ramlila Ground on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Ministers and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states will attend the Thursday oath-taking.

She won from Shalimar Bagh, defeating AAP candidate Bandna Kumari by over 29,000 votes in the February 5 Assembly polls. All 48 newly-elected BJP MLAs attended the legislature party meeting in the presence of Central observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and O P Dhankar.

The CM-designate will now meet Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena at Raj Niwas to stake a claim in forming a BJP-led government in Delhi. She will be the fourth woman chief minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit and Atishi.
