Meet Rajit Gupta, Kota Student Who Secured Top Spot In JEE Advanced 2025

Rajit credited his success to focusing on correcting mistakes, inspired by his father's past engineering exam rank

The Indian Institute of Technolgy, Kanpur on Monday announced the results of JEE Advanced 2025. Rajit Gupta, a student from Kota scripted history by securing All India Rank 1 in JEE Advanced 2025.

He became the first local student from the coaching hub to clinch the top spot in the prestigious engineering entrance exam.

Rajit secured AIR 16 in JEE Main in the April session and achieved a 100 percentile score in the January session, as per a report by The Times of India. He prepared for the exam, at Allen Career Institute, Kota.

He comes from an academically strong family where his father, Deepak Gupta is a Sub-Divisional Engineer at BSNL in Kota. His mother, Shruti Gupta is a professor of Home Science at JDB College in the city.

The JEE Advanced 2025 topper attributed his success to one principle, fixing mistakes.

“After getting 16th rank in JEE Main, I knew the road to the top wasn’t going to be easy. I went back to the basics and focused only on not repeating my mistakes. Correcting errors is what truly strengthens your foundation in any subject,” he told TOI.

Revealing a striking generational coincidence, Rajit told that his father secured 48th rank in the Rajasthan Pre-Engineering Test, in 1994, just missing the top rank by some marks.

Rajit said his father's achievement always inspired him. "He performed under far tough conditions," Rajit said recoginising the priviliege of resources and support system he had.

Hailing from Kota, the epicentre of coaching industry in the country, Rajit highilighted how being from the city played a pivotal role.

“Seeing thousands of students come here from across the country, staying away from families and comfort, pushed me to never take my situation for granted. My mum often reminded me that staying at home, eating home-cooked food, and having my parents around gave me an advantage many didn’t have,” he said.
