'When I Went To A Temple...': Akhilesh Yadav Reveals Why He Decided To Take Holy Dip At Maha Kumbh

Akhilesh Yadav also came down heavily on the Yogi Adityanath government, saying that data shows that UP is the most unsafe state for women in the country.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday hit out at the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh and revealed the reason why he decided to take the holy dip at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

Akhilesh claimed that when he went to a temple, the BJP workers had washed it with Gangajal. He said that he decided that day that he would definitely take the holy bath at Maha Kumbh.

The SP chief was referring to the his visit to the Siddh Baba Gaurishankar Mahadev temple in Kannauj last year, after which the BJP workers allegedly washed the temple with the holy Ganga water.

"When I went to a temple, they washed it with Gangajal. That very day I made up my mind that I will definitely go to take a bath in Maha Kumbh. I came after taking a bath in Maha Kumbh, now the BJP people should tell me with which Gangajal are you going to wash the Gangajal?" Akhilesh said while speaking at Mahila Samman Samaroh organised by Samajwadi Party Mahila Sabha in Lucknow.

The Kannauj MP also came down heavily on the Yogi Adityanath government, saying that data shows that UP is the most unsafe state for women in the country. He also accused saffron party of harbouring hatred for women.

"If we see the data, I don't trust the media, I only trust home department's data. If you will see the data, you will get to know that women are most unsafe in UP, where maximum incidents (against women) are happening. They are trying to hide this (data)," Akhilesh added.

Akhilesh also defended his party's Rajya Sabha MP Ramjilal Suman over his controversial remarks in Parliament on Mewar ruler Rana Sanga, saying that if BJP leaders can revisit history to discuss Aurangzeb then he has also just mentioned a page from history.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Suman had called Rana Sanga a traitor and said that Hindus are his descendants.

The BJP slammed Yadav for supporting Suman's remarks, saying it was an insult to the entire Hindu community. The ruling party accused Yadav of indulging in appeasement and said his remarks reflect the anti-Hindu mindset of the Samajwadi Party.
